HNM Systems Makes the Inc. 5000 List

By Heather Moyer on August 27th, 2019

HNM Systems is proud to join the exclusive ranks of the most successful companies in America on the Inc. 5000 list. For the first time, HNM has been named to this prestigious list, which recognizes U.S.-based, privately-held companies experiencing remarkable success, “giving readers a deeper, richer understanding of the entrepreneurial landscape and capturing a broader spectrum of success.”

Being included in this list is an incredible honor for HNM Systems, celebrating the innovation and entrepreneurial leadership that has propelled its growth over the past several years, especially. HNM joins the likes of companies like Pandora, 7 Eleven Zipcar, and Zappos.com, all launching into exponential success after landing on this list.

“It is a great honor to be celebrated alongside 4,999 innovative and purposeful entrepreneurs who have shared similar journeys. This is the first Inc. ranking for HNM and is due in large part to our staff’s relentless pursuit to quality, transparency, agility, and people focus,” says HNM Systems President and CEO Heather Moyer.

This year’s list, ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2015 to 2018, includes hugely recognizable names like NuLeaf Naturals (#11), Pendo (#73), Grove Collaborative (#87), Bombas (#165), and Noom (#212).

What It Takes to Make It

Since its founding in 1979, Inc. has grown in its own right to become a trusted gauge for entrepreneurial innovation and a leading advocate for small businesses across industries. To qualify, companies must be

  • Privately-owned, based in the United States, and independent (not a subsidiary or division of another company)
  • Have started earning revenue by March 31st, 2015
  • Had revenue no less than $100,000 in 2015
  • Had revenue no less than $2,000,000 in 2018
  • Revenue in 2018 exceeds revenue in 2015

Companies come from a wide range of industries including telecommunications, advertising and marketing, logistics, consumer products and services, health, and financial services. The top 500 companies are showcased in the magazine’s September issue and all honorees are invited to the annual Inc. 5000 Conference & Awards Ceremony along with alumni and other growth-minded entrepreneurs.

With an audience reach of more than 20 million, Inc. is the single-most trusted resource for growing private companies, and it says that defining success is a critical step for small businesses. And yet, while inclusion in the Inc. 5000 recognizes successful revenue growth–undoubtedly a key indicator of success–HNM has also honed in on what the Harvard Business Review identifies as fundamental contributors to long-term success for start-ups: society-first principles, adaptable long-term strategies, and scalable leadership.

Rooted in Something Bigger

One of HNM’s core values, spoken often, is that it strives to be “Relentlessly People Driven.” In fact, it was what drove Moyer to launch the business. Though the goal may have always been to do good work, the mission was to be about the people.

This perspective drives the way HNM does business, building relationships with its employees and focusing on its staff as its own indicator of success. From Moyer’s experience, this was a rare mindset in the underserved telecommunication industry.

To drive change in the industries and for the people working in them, they founded HNM Systems and set out to be the change they wanted to see. The drive to serve people extended beyond the company “walls” as well, and Moyer drives a culture that encourages volunteerism and a commitment to community.

In 2018, recognizing an evolution in process in technology and telecommunications, HNM decided to expand from serving the information and communications technology (ICT) space to emerging technologies. Their commitment to bringing unique technology and high impact performers meant that this evolution would not be HNM’s last either.

A focus on innovative methodology and a people-driven approach requires adaptability and it has been the catalyst for the very growth that earned HNM a spot on the Inc. 5000.

And as the company continues to evolve and focus on its people, HNM is then well equipped to scale as it keeps growing.

What It Means for Customers and the Future

It’s important that HNM is primed for continued growth, because the outlook for ICT and emerging tech is strong. Major advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) are happening fast and driving demand for the very skills HNM consultants have to offer.

Everyday applications of technologies that use machine learning and AI may seem far off or impractical today for consumers, but already many of our digital experiences are being enhanced with these innovations. Both private and public entities continue to explore the potential for short-term impact.

Executives see potential benefits of innovations like AI such as increased productivity, reduced operating costs, improved speed to market, and transformed business and operating models, according to a Forbes survey, which means businesses can already see concrete reasons for investing in these technologies.

This means a promising future for the ICT and emerging tech workforce. Together with the growing demand for the skills to build and support the infrastructure to bring these innovations to the workforce and consumers increases, increasing regulatory pressure and focus on data security, the market’s potential is unlimited.
